It has been a MINUTE… well actually it’s been three months, but here I am! I have quite the update to do!
So the last time I was on here I believe I was looking for somewhere new to live. I am happy to report that I have moved (I know, for like the fourth time since moving to Ottawa)! I now live in this cute area of Ottawa, closer to my school and work, and I have two roommates. They’re old friends of mine from my McDonald days. I’m finally all settled in and although my last apartment gave me total heart eyes, this place has quickly become a cozy little home.
I have not skipped a beat on school since returning to Carleton this past winter. In hopes of completing my General Bachelor of Art’s as soon as possible, I’ve been taking three summer courses throughout the duration of the summer. Summer classes are exhilarated so it’s been a lot of work, but it means I’ll be finished a semester sooner, so yay!
Luckily enough my telecounseling job at Carleton U has lasted me through the summer. Only part-time hours are available but because of my summer courses it was all I was really prepared to work anyways. Our office is closing for a month close to the end of August, so perhaps I’ll have to get back into my old habits of selling all my items on kijiji to last me through the month, haha.
This summer has actually been loads of fun. I’ve spent so much time with my friends playing board games, enjoying street fairs and outdoor markets and spending time in the sun. Two of my best friends here in Ottawa both graduated from Carleton this past spring so it’s been an exciting summer filled with big changes for the both of them. One of them is leaving this fall to complete her masters at the London School of Economics in England so we’ve all been soaking up as much time together before her departure.
I have actually been super fortunate in that I’ve got to take a lot of little road trips this summer! In June I went to Montreal to attend my grandma’s funeral and visit with my high school friend Madie. It’s always so lovely to catch up and explore more of the city with her. Then at the end of June I went home to New Liskeard for my little sister’s high school graduation. Family friends of ours from Louisiana came for her grad (as their son did for mine). It was a really fun week (and then some) with family and friends. Lastly, just this past weekend I got to go to Huntsville to see my best friend Syd who had just returned from England, where she was completing school! It was a fun weekend filled with sun, a street fair and catching up.
Oh my goodness. Without completing gushing, I have met the most amazing person. His name is Ben and we met through mutual friends in the beginning of May. I’d say it took me less than 48 hours to have completely fallen for him. Quickly – he is the sweetest, most selfless, fun, intelligent person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He asked me to be his girlfriend after having known me for about two weeks, I of course said yes. Everything since then has been a complete whirlwind. He has made this summer one for the books. From spa days, to drive in movie theatres – we have had so much fun. I don’t know how I would have moved without his help, or got my room to the point it is today (he built me a shelf, helped me with a floor plan, and more). He’s been my rock through so many frustrating situations and been my biggest cheerleader through my triumphs. I’m sure you’ll hear a lot more about him in the future, but meeting Benny has been my favourite part of 2017 so far.
*I should mention he visited me while I was in New Liskeard (yes he did the 6 hour drive up north), he was the one who drove me to my grandma’s funeral in Montreal (fun fact: his grandpa was buried 20 feet from my grandparents), and he went to Huntsville this following weekend with me! I swear he’s more than just a chauffeur though ;)…
We’ve had so many adventures together already, I genuinely cannot wait to see what the future holds.
If you haven’t come to the conclusion yet, I’m pretty stinkin’ happy. Everything just feels stable. I just got an A+ on a midterm, I scored an amazing volunteer opportunity for the fall, and my kitty is getting more cuddly by the day. Everything just seems to be running smoothly. I genuinely wake up and feel elated to get to begin my day, something I have not felt for a very very long time. I know that I tend to operate in ups and downs, and I feel like I’m up so high that I fear the “inevitable” decline. But then I remind myself that just because I’ve experienced happiness doesn’t mean that I will automatically experience the same amount of sadness. For now, I’m going to soak up every moment, of every day and continue to make summer 2017 the best it can be.
This is kind of silly, but I wanted to share a few quotes that have been making me feel really motivated and hopeful lately.
“It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, but a good amount of it actually is.”
“The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.”
– Henry Ward Beecher
“Life becomes more meaningful when you realize the simple fact that you’ll never get the same moment twice.”
‘I believe in you.’ Words that water flowers.
– Michael Faudet
